Forming Effective Disciples (F.E.D)

Several years ago Bishop Christensen asked the Office of Catholic Formation to begin to change the current points based catechetical certification program to a content driven program. From this initiative the Forming Effective Disciples (F.E.D.) program has been developed. It is aimed at all adults within the parish not just catechists and teachers. It is designed to help spur adult interest in the faith and promote new evangelization practices of bringing those seeking Christ closer to Him.

The National Directory of Catechesis, Diocesan Policy and Wisconsin Catholic Conference (WCC) require religious formation certification for teachers and catechists. These policies require all teachers in schools and catechists to hold a minimum of Foundational (Basic) level certification within three years of hire or starting in a position. Any teachers who teach religion class during the school day and all Parish Catechetical Leaders (DREs and principals) must hold Elevated (Advanced) level certification within five years of the assignment.

By virtue of their ministry, personnel in Catholic education are role models for adults, youth, and children. Therefore, they are called to be well informed in Catholic teaching, dedicated to ongoing formation, and committed to a Catholic way of life and witness. The purpose of the certification is to promote and support a high quality of Catholic education in the State of Wisconsin.

The Forming Effective Disciples sessions will resume in September 2014. Please check the parish calendar for dates and times.
